Term 4 March 2016

Staff Corner

Welcome back after the half term break. A special Hello and welcome goes to all our new starters this term.

Our theme this term is one that the children are going to be very excited about, we are going to be learning about Space & Night and Day. Over the next few weeks we will be doing so many fun activities – some ideas from the children include: make a big junk model rocket, put stickers on it and paint it; have a rocket or spaceship in the home corner; and make a moon and stars. Some stories and songs we will be sharing are: Whatever Next, Aliens Love Underpants, The Biggest Bear, While You Were Sleeping, Hoot, Night and Day, Look Into Space, 5 Little Men in a Flying Saucer and Hey Diddle Diddle. We will also be listening to Walking on the Moon, Rocketman, and Major Tom – which some parents/grandparents may remember!

We will be talking about 2d and 3d shapes and using the soft play shapes to construct on a large scale. Let’s see what flying spaceships we can create!

We will be reading some rhyming word books and using poetry to help children continue a rhyming string. You can help your child at home with rhyming words. We will also be encouraging children to hear and say the initial sound in words. Please support your child with this.

Communication and Language
We will be using books and rhymes to encourage the children to join in with repeated phrases. We will be encouraging the children to ask and understand ‘why’ and ‘how’ questions using our theme of space and night and day.

Physical development
We will be taking part in an obstacle course – training for NASA! We will also be having an asteroid fight (with socks) and continuing music and movement sessions using the Sticky Kids CD this half term. We will also be using our fine motor movements to cut and tear paper.

Understanding the World
We will be experimenting with spider plants to see how they survive on different planets in different climates and conditions.

Sport Relief – 18th March
On this day we would like children to wear red. All we ask for is a 50p donation to this good cause.

Special Books
These are a beneficial link between home and playgroup. We cannot stress how important these books are. They are also a great tool when the children are settling in. Please can all children bring their books in early this term.

Sainsbury’s Active Kid Vouchers
We are taking part in this great scheme again. Please support pre-school by collecting as many vouchers as you can.

Clothes and footwear
Putting your child in manageable clothes and footwear is so important at playgroup, for example, elasticated jeans, jogging pants etc. dungarees and belts can be difficult for children to manage when going to the toilet, staff are always there to assist but we also like to encourage the children to become independent in this area. Please ensure that your child is well equipped for the elements with practical, easy to put on, outdoor clothing. Wellingtons are ideal. Remember, new uniform is always available to purchase and makes deciding what to wear much easier – please speak to a member of staff. Please can you help us by ensuring all clothing, coats, slippers, shoes etc are named.

Car parking
Please remember to use the village hall at dropping off and picking up times. This will ease congestion around the front of the school. This area is a free way and cars must not obstruct it. Please do not park in the bus bay at any time!

Key Person Baskets
We would like to encourage the children to bring in one small item for their basket. This could be a special toy, a comfort toy or a book or something related to our theme. At circle time, we can talk in our small groups about it, encouraging communication skills.

Please remember to check your child’s tray/book bag at the end of a session, you may find important notices and some very precious work!

Valentine raffle – many thanks for supporting this raffle. £38.00 was raised.
