Term 1 September 2015

Staff Corner

Welcome back, we hope you all had an enjoyable summer break. A special Hello and welcome goes to all our new starters this term – we are looking forward to getting to know all of the new children and their families.

Our theme this term is “All about Me, My Family and Friends”. We would love to see and display (if provided) each child’s family tree. Some of the books we will be sharing include: Don’t worry William, I am happy moonlight, I’m sorry baby brains, Owl Babies, and Let’s look at eyes.

Some of this terms activities will include music and movement, portrait easel painting, cooking pizza faces, den making and ring games. Some of the songs we will be sharing are Heads and Shoulders, Tommy Thumb, If you’re happy and you know it, and Dingle Dangle scarecrow.

We will be talking about ourselves and our families as well as sharing our favourite books and songs. We will also be talking about our differences in height, hair colour, eye colour and lots more.

We will be making a height chart and comparing the size of the children (and adults) in the setting. We will also be discussing biggest and smallest.

Understanding the World
We will be looking at photos of your child as a baby and comparing these pictures with how they look now. We will be making an eye colour chart so we can see which is the most popular eye colour in pre-school.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development
We will be looking at our Golden Rules will help give an understanding of our boundaries and routines. We will be giving the children the responsibility of carrying out a small task.

Communication and Language
We will be sharing your child’s special book with them, catching up on the lovely things they have been doing during the holidays. Please can you ensure your child’s special book is updated an brought into the setting – many thanks!

Physical Development
We will be offering ring games and whistle activities on the field (such as running races) for your child to participate in. We will also be using laces to thread beads and using a variety of mark making tools including crayons, paint brushes and pencils.

Grandparents Day/Macmillan Coffee Morning- 25th September 10.30am
We will be supporting this worthy cause once again and would love you to all join us. The children are always so proud to show their Grandparents where they come to school! All family members welcome. Donations of cakes and raffle prizes will be very much appreciated.

Wednesday and Thursday Lunch Club
If your child stays for lunch, we ask that where possible healthy choices are made. We always encourage children to eat their sandwiches and savouries first followed by fruit, yogurts etc. We ask that fizzy drinks and sweets are not included in packed lunches. Water is always available.

Parent Helpers
We welcome parents/carers in our setting. If you have a talent to share – baking, playing an instrument, singing, woodwork or even reading a story, we would love you to join us. Please speak to Caroline or Sharon (Ra Ra).

Appropriate Clothing
Please can we ask that the children wear clothing that is appropriate for the environment at playgroup. Leggings, shorts and jogging pants are ideal. We also have uniform (sweatshirts & t-shirts) for sale which makes deciding what to wear so much easier and saves those special clothes getting ruined with paint, etc. This also applies to footwear.

Clothing & Footwear
Please can you help us by ensuring all clothing, coats, slippers, shoes etc are named. A change of clothes is always useful to have too.

Interest Box
We would like to encourage the children to bring in one small item for the interest box. This could be a special toy, a comfort toy or a book or something related to our theme.

Car parking
Please remember to use the village hall at dropping off and picking up times. This will ease congestion around the front of the school. This area is a free way and cars must not obstruct it. Please do not park in the bus bay at any time!

Please make sure you close all gates behind you securely and make sure that any one following you into playgroup is known to you.

The intercom system has been replaced and is now fully operational. Please be patient when waiting for the gate to be opened – especially during the first few weeks of term whilst we are settling the children back into pre-school. Thankyou!

Please remember to check your child’s tray at the end of a session, you may find important notices and some very precious work!

Book Bags
We now have Pre-school book bags available to buy for just £4.00 – a great way to get your child used to using one in preparation for big school and to ensure all important notices and precious work gets safely home.

*Special Books – very important*
Please bring in your child’s special book as individual keypersons will be spending time with their key children.

Committee notices

Committee Meeting
The next meeting will be held on Thursday 10th September at 7pm in the playroom. Everyone is welcome to attend this meeting.

We are in need of someone to do odd jobs around pre-school. If anyone feels able to help us out with any little diy/maintenance jobs, please speak to a member of staff or committee. Many thanks in advance.

As a result of the fantastic support we have received from parents through all of our fundraising events, we have now been able to replace the outside bark area with artificial grass and replace the carpet in the playroom during the summer holidays. Thankyou!
