Welcome back, we hope you all had an enjoyable summer break. A special ‘Hello’ and ‘Welcome’ goes out to all our new starters this term – we are looking forward to getting to know all of the new children and their families.
Our theme this term is ‘All about Me, My Family and Friends’. We would love you to create a family tree at home using photos and then bring your tree into pre-school for us to display.
We will be making a height chart using sunflowers we have made, comparing the size of the children in the setting. We will also be discussing biggest and smallest.
We will be talking about ourselves and our families as well as sharing our favourite books and songs.
Communication and Language
We will be sharing your child’s special book with them, catching up on the lovely things they have been up to during the holidays.
We will be offering ring games and activities on the field for your child to participate in. We will also be using laces to thread beads and using a variety of mark making tools including brushes and paint.
Understanding the World
We will be looking at photos of your child as a baby and comparing these pictures with how they look now. We will be making an eye colour chart so we can see which is the most popular eye colour in pre-school this term.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
We will be looking at our golden rules to help give an understanding of our boundaries and routines. We will be introducing a daily helper, which will provide the opportunity for the children to carry out small tasks.
Expressive Art and Design
We will be encouraging your child to talk about their favourite colours whilst having the opportunity to mix their own colours.
Suggestions of things you could do at home to support your child with their learning
We will be talking about ‘my family’ and would really appreciate it if you could make your family tree with your child so that they could bring it with them to pre-school and display it for this half term. Please keep your child’s special book updated with any news which will provide your child with the opportunity to share and talk about it with us at pre-school. Please continue to read to your child, encouraging them to repeat familiar words and phrases from the story.
Wednesday and Thursday Lunch Club
If your child stays for lunch, we ask that where possible healthy choices are made. We always encourage children to eat their sandwiches and savouries first followed by fruit, yoghurts etc. We ask that fizzy drinks and sweets are not included in packed lunches. Water is always available. We now offer the option of School Dinners at the cost of £2.30 per day. These are ordered on a 4 week cycle in conjunction with Swinderby Primary School. For more information on these or an order form, please speak to Caroline.
Clothing and Footwear
Please can we ask that your children wear clothing and footwear that is appropriate for the environment at pre-school and that they do not come in their special clothes. Although we do supply and encourage aprons, we do not believe in a child missing out on messy play if they refuse to wear one. We have uniform (sweatshirts and t-shirts) for sale which saves those special clothes getting ruined with paint etc. Please could you also ensure that all clothing, coats, slippers, shoes etc are named.
Please remember to use the village hall car park at dropping off and picking up times. This will ease congestion around the front of the school. Please do not park in the bus bay at any time!
Please make sure you close all gates behind you securely and make sure that any one following you into pre-school is known to you. This is for the safety of all the children in both our pre-school and Swinderby Primary School.
Please be patient when waiting for the gate to be opened, especially during the first few weeks of term whilst we are settling the children back into pre-school. Thank you!
We welcome parents/carers in our setting. If you have a talent to share- baking, playing an instrument, singing, woodwork or even reading a story, we would love you to join us.
We are very lucky to have received some lovely new chalk boards for Pre-school which were very generously donated by a parent. We are very grateful and would like to say thank you very much.
Please remember to bring in your child’s book bag with them and place it in the blue box. All notices and precious work will be placed in it, therefore ensuring they get home safely!
Ragtex – we will be having a collection on 1st November, further information to follow shortly. If you have any unwanted clothes, textiles, shoes etc, these are all collected and can be used to raise valuable funds for pre-school.
Next Meeting – Tuesday 13th September at 7:15pm in the playroom. Everyone is welcome to attend this meeting.
Dates for your diary
We will be supporting Macmillan Cancer Support again this year by hosting a Family Coffee Morning on Friday 30th September at 10:30am. Please come along for a cup of tea and a slice of cake. We will also be holding a raffle. Any cake or raffle donations for this event would be very much appreciated. All family members are welcome.
