November / December 2017

Welcome back after the October break. We hope you all enjoyed it and you are ready for the busy run up to Christmas!

Don’t forget to get your orders in for you Christmas plates. They make wonderful personalised gifts at a great price.

A special ‘Hello’ and ‘Welcome’ goes out to all our new starters this term – we are looking forward to getting to know all of the new children and their families.

Anne came into pre-school to visit us last half term. We presented her with her leaving card and gifts of a Vase, Revive vouchers and Flowers. Thank you to all the parents who donated to these gifts. Anne was very grateful.

Unfortunately Caroline Harrison, our School Liason and pre-school admistrator, has taken the decision to leave pre-school after 14 years with us. We are very sorry to receive her resignation and will all miss her greatly. A huge ‘Thank You’ from all the staff and committee for all of your time dedicated to our pre-school Caroline.

Our theme this half term is ‘Celebrations’

Primary School Applications
If your child is due to commence Primary school in September 2018, online application opens on Monday 13th November – 22nd January 2018 for Lincolnshire and Monday 6th November – 15th January 2018 for Nottinghamshire. Please access www.lincolnshire.gov.uk or www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk to complete your application forms. Please speak to Caroline if you require any further information. A poster is also displayed on the notice board in the outside waiting area.

Breakfast Club
We are now offering a breakfast club. This is available everyday from 8am-9.05am at a cost of just £4 per session. Early Years Entitlement Funding can also be used for this. Please speak to Caroline if you require any further details.

Class Dojo
If you would like some more information on this site, which we use for parents as a useful method of keeping up to date with what’s happening at pre-school, please speak to Caroline.

Absences/Collection by another adult
Please ensure you contact the pre-school if your child will not be attending a session. Holiday forms are available for you to complete in advance when necessary.
We also need to know, from the person dropping your child off that day, if somebody else will be collecting them. We are unable to let a child leave with another adult who’s child attends the setting, without speaking to the child’s parent for consent.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Lunch Club
If your child stays for lunch, we ask that where possible healthy choices are made. We always encourage children to eat their sandwiches and savouries first followed by fruit, yoghurts etc. We ask that fizzy drinks and sweets are not included in packed lunches. Water is always available. We offer the option of School Dinners at the cost of £2.30 per day. These are ordered on a 4 week cycle in conjunction with Swinderby Primary School. For more information on these or an order form, please speak to Caroline.

Extra Sessions
We are currently able to offer some one off sessions for your child should you require them. This is dependent on availability of staff/child ratio. Please speak to Caroline if you require an extra session at anytime.

Clothing and Footwear
Please can we ask that your children wear clothing and footwear that is appropriate for the environment at pre-school and that they do not come in their special clothes. Although we do supply and encourage aprons, we do not believe in a child missing out on messy play if they refuse to wear one. We have uniform (sweatshirts and t-shirts) for sale which saves those special clothes getting ruined with paint etc. Please could you also ensure that all clothing, coats, slippers, shoes etc are named.

Car Parking
Please remember to use the village hall car park at dropping off and picking up times. This will ease congestion around the front of the school. Please do not park in the bus bay at any time!

Gates
Please make sure you close all gates behind you securely and make sure that no one follows you through the gate into the school playground. This is for the safety of all the children in both our pre-school and Swinderby Primary School.

Intercom
Please only press the intercom button once and be patient when waiting for the gate to be opened. Thank you!

Playground
Please can all parents ensure that their children keep off the playground and the adventure play equipment before and after pre-school. When waiting to come into pre-school, please use the waiting area up the steps alongside the portacabin. Thank you.

Parent Helpers
We welcome parents/carers in our setting. If you have a talent to share- baking, playing an instrument, singing, woodwork or even reading a story, we would love you to join us.

Fundraising
We will continue to host a variety of fundraising events throughout the academic year and are extremely grateful for your support with these. All money raised is used for new resources for all the children who attend our pre-school. Thank you to everyone who attended our Halloween Party at the end of term. We raised a grand total of £315.00. Absolutely amazing! We also had great success with our McMillian Breakfast Bacon Butties. We raised £140.00 For this very worthy cause.

What’s On This Half Term?
Autumn 2017

Our Theme is
Celebrations

Literacy
We will be reading our Christmas story ‘Room for a little one’ and encouraging your child to recall it, describing the story’s main characters and events.

Maths
We will be making a paper chain with numbers on to help us count down to Christmas.

Understanding The World
We will be talking about Christmas and asking the children what they think Christmas is. We will display their answers for you to read.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development
We will be using floor puzzles to encourage your child to take turns and share resources.

Communication and Language
We will be talking about staying safe with fireworks and learning a rhyme to help us to remember.

Physical Development
We will be developing our pre writing skills by threading. We will be using these skills by making bird feeders for your child to take home and hang in your garden for the birds to enjoy.

Expressive Art and Design
We will be making streamers and moving to music like a firework. We will also be using musical instruments to make loud noises like fireworks do.

Suggestions of things you could do at home to support your child with their learning
Please keep your child’s special book updated with any news which will provide your child with the opportunity to share and talk about it with us at pre-school. Encourage your child to put their coat/shoes on, with help if needed. Choose with your child a ‘story for the week’ that you can read daily, encouraging your child to join in with repeated phases used in the book.
