Welcome back, we hope you all had an enjoyable summer break. A special ‘Hello’ and ‘Welcome’ goes out to all our new starters this term – we are looking forward to getting to know all of the new children and their families. Following our AGM on Thursday 13th October, our Chairperson Rachel Gagg has stepped down from her role. We would like to thank Rachel for all of her time and support she has shown to the pre-school over the past few years. Welcome to our new Chairperson Zoe Bristow. Many of you may recognise Zoe from last year when her daughter attended our pre-school and when she has covered staff during some sessions whilst they attend training. Zoe has been on our committee for the past year and is looking forward to her new role.
Our theme this term is ‘Celebrations’ with a Dinosaur week for all our children who are displaying a particular interest in them at the moment.
Safeguarding/Child Protection Update
Due to recent changes in our policies we now require you to sign a child absence form if your child is not attending pre-school due to illness or holiday for example. Please ensure you contact the pre-school if your child will not be attending a session. Holiday forms are available for you to complete in advance when necessary. We also need to know, from the person dropping your child off that day, if somebody else will be collecting them. We are unable to let a child leave with another adult whose child attends the setting, without speaking to the child’s parent for consent.
We will be using dinosaurs to do feet painting, talking about and comparing size-who has the biggest feet? We will also be doing floor puzzles, encouraging interest in shape.
We will be reading books like Room on the Broom and Dinosaurs wear Underpants for your children to join in with.
Communication and Language
We will be practicing our Christmas story and rhymes for our Nativity, encouraging your children to join in with them.
We will be encouraging your child to change their shoes/slippers when they go outside to play and also to put their coats and hats on/off by themselves or with support from an adult.
Understanding the World
We will be talking about Fire Safety for bonfire night and Christmas, encouraging your children to talk about events from their own experiences.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
We will be continuing to promote turn taking and sharing of our resources. Visual aids, such as the sand timers, will be used to ensure every child has an equal amount of time on their chosen activity.
Expressive Art and Design
We will be encouraging your child to play musical instruments, tapping out simple repeated rhythms to Christmas songs like Jingle Bells.
Suggestions of things you could do at home to support your child with their learning
Playing simple games with your child promotes turn taking and sharing. If you would like to borrow one of our games to play with your child at home, please speak to your child’s key person, who will provide a suitable game. Please keep your child’s special book updated with any news which will provide your child with the opportunity to share and talk about it with us at pre-school. Please continue to read to your child, encouraging them to repeat familiar words and phrases from the story.
Wednesday and Thursday Lunch Club
If your child stays for lunch, we ask that where possible healthy choices are made. We always encourage children to eat their sandwiches and savouries first followed by fruit, yoghurts etc. We ask that fizzy drinks and sweets are not included in packed lunches. Water is always available. We now offer the option of School Dinners at the cost of £2.30 per day. These are ordered on a 4 week cycle in conjunction with Swinderby Primary School. For more information on these or an order form, please speak to Caroline.
We are currently able to offer some one off sessions for your child should you require them. This is dependent on availability of staff/child ratio. Please speak to Caroline if you require an extra session at anytime.
Clothing and Footwear
Please can we ask that your children wear clothing and footwear that is appropriate for the environment at pre-school and that they do not come in their special clothes. Although we do supply and encourage aprons, we do not believe in a child missing out on messy play if they refuse to wear one. We have uniform (sweatshirts and t-shirts) for sale which saves those special clothes getting ruined with paint etc. Please could you also ensure that all clothing, coats, slippers, shoes etc are named.
Please remember to use the village hall car park at dropping off and picking up times. This will ease congestion around the front of the school. Please do not park in the bus bay at any time!
Please make sure you close all gates behind you securely and make sure that no one follows you through the gate into the school playground. This is for the safety of all the children in both our pre-school and Swinderby Primary School.
Please only press the intercom button once and be patient when waiting for the gate to be opened. Thank you!
We welcome parents/carers in our setting. If you have a talent to share- baking, playing an instrument, singing, woodwork or even reading a story, we would love you to join us.
We are very lucky to have received some lovely new chalk boards for Pre-school which were very generously donated by a parent. We are very grateful and would like to say thank you very much.
Please remember to bring in your child’s book bag with them and place it in the blue box. All notices and precious work will be placed in it, therefore ensuring they get home safely!
